addition new Mobile mid-level processors, Qualcomm introduced a LTE-modem Snapdragon X16. The chip will be installed in the new flagship chipset 800 series, which will be released in the first half of next year. The main feature of the development is that it is the world’s first commercial LTE-modem that supports data transfer rates up to 1 Gbit / s. At the moment, these networks does not yet exist, but Qualcomm announced a partnership with Netgear and Ericsson, as well as the Australian operator Telstra’s, who are planning to start the first gigabit network before the end of this year. It is expected that other companies will start offering gigabit speed over the next 12 months.
It is important to note that support for gigabit speed operators and the modem does not guarantee that in actual use, users will get the following results. In his official video Qualcomm showed download speeds in the range of 835 Mbit / s, but these conditions are close to ideal. In their tests, the company was able to achieve results in the range of 112 to 307 Mbit / s on a device with a new modem Snapdragon X16 – and is many times more than that now offer mobile devices
Qualcomm also introduced the world’s first commercial-5G modem Snapdragon X50, which operates in the millimeter-wave spectrum in the range of 28 GHz with a bandwidth of 800 MHz. This modem uses antennas Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology with adaptive beamforming and beam tracking method, which facilitates the reliable and robust mobile broadband in an area without direct line of sight.
Snapdragon X50 is designed for multimode 4G / 5G mobile broadband, and fixed wireless broadband devices. This modem can be paired with Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with integrated LTE-gigabit modem. How assures Qualcomm, Snapdragon X50 allows you to download data at speeds up to 5 Gb / s.
The first commercial devices based on Snapdragon X50 5G-modem are expected in the first half of 2018.
