The specialists of the Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (NII PMM) Tomsk State University jointly with the engineers of the company “InTeh-M” collected experimental industrial design of the first in Russia of 3D-printers for printing monolithic ceramics.

The system was named RoCust X600. The device allows you to install up to two printheads and produce elements of dimensions 600 × 400 × 300 mm.

Until now, the main method of producing ceramic products were injection molding, which is not possible to create products of complex configuration. Currently, there are methods of 3D-printing complex geometry of products, but they allow you to obtain a porous product with residues of adhesives and low strength.

Russian scientists succeeded in developing the world’s first 3D-printing method ceramics, competing in their properties with high alloy steel non-ferrous metals and hard alloys.

In Tomsk State University implemented a full production cycle: first, the scientists obtained ceramic powders then are made thermoplastic paste – “ink” for the printer, and then print the product is sintered at high temperature, and so they acquire the necessary properties. The original design of 3D-printers allows you to produce heavy-duty elements of up to 200 microns. These ceramics are in demand in the aerospace industry, the chemical and oil and gas industry.
