A number of major automotive companies announced a joint project for the deployment in Europe of large-scale network of stations fast charging hybrid and electric vehicles.

The project will be attended by BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company, as well as Volkswagen with its subsidiaries Audi and Porsche. The main objective of the initiative is to make long trips on electric cars as comfortable as in conventional cars with internal combustion engines for European countries.

To this end, along the major highways will be deployed ultra-fast battery charging stations. Such plants can provide power up to 350 kW, which is significantly higher compared to most existing systems.

The beginning of the project is scheduled for 2017. In the first phase the partners intend to deploy 400 charging stations. By the end of the current decade, the number is expected to be in the thousands.

The emergence of such infrastructure should significantly revive demand in the electric sector. It is now one of the limiting factors in the development of this market is precisely the lack of fast and convenient charging stations networks.
